Mayor Leonard Moore

Leonard Moore was born in the small city of Shaw, Mississippi to two loving parents on a cool autumn day in 1965. After 7 years of country living, Mrs. Moore decided to relocate Leonard and the family to Madison, IL. after the untimely passing of Mr. Moore in 1974. Leonard went on to graduate from Madison Senior High School (Home of the Trojans), then landed a job at the Missouri School for the Blind and at that point, he knew helping people was his calling. Some years later, he would become a security officer for the AT&T headquarters and would move to the Village of Washington Park in 2003 after settling down with his wife.

As a resident, Leonard became curious about the field of politics. To get a closer look, he became the Highway Commissioner of Canteen Township from 2013 until 2021. After building the right connections, Leonard decided he didn’t like the way things were run and wanted to put his name in the hat to become Mayor of Washington Park. After a landslide victory in 2021, Leonard has taken on the challenge! Opening small businesses, modernizing Ordinances, implementing a new trash service, bringing a youth program, a new plumbing system, an annual fun day and a solar energy project are just a few things Mayor Moore has brought to the Village and there is more to come.

He is quoted as saying, “I want to revive a broken place. This job has been and will be a challenge but I’m willing to accept it.”
